From humble beginnings as the Embassy School to becoming a premier international institution — IISY's story spans over five decades of educational excellence in Yangon.

The Beginning

IISY traces its roots to 1967 with the founding of The Embassy School Duta Teruna within the Indonesian Embassy compound in Yangon (then Rangoon). Established as a diplomatic service to the Indonesian community, the school began its enduring mission of delivering quality education to Indonesian children abroad.

What are the admission requirements for IISY? +

IISY welcomes students of all nationalities. Admission requires a completed application form, previous academic records (report cards), a placement assessment appropriate to the grade level, and a parent/guardian interview. What curriculum does IISY offer? +

IISY offers a dual curriculum: the Indonesian National Curriculum (aligned with Indonesia's Ministry of Education standards) and the internationally recognised Cambridge IGCSE program (in collaboration with British Council Myanmar). This combination provides students with strong national roots and global academic credentials.

What is the medium of instruction at IISY? +

The primary medium of instruction at IISY is English, ensuring students are well-prepared for international academic environments. Bahasa Indonesia is also taught as part of the local curriculum. Students from diverse linguistic backgrounds are warmly welcomed and supported.

Are there extracurricular activities available? +

Yes! IISY offers a rich variety of extracurricular activities including sports, arts and music programmes, science clubs, student council, debate, cultural events, and community service initiatives. We firmly believe in developing the whole child — beyond academic achievement alone.

Is IISY accredited by international organisations? +

IISY is formally recognised as an Indonesian School Abroad by Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Culture (Ministerial Decree No. 054/1968). Through our partnership with British Council Myanmar, we are authorised to deliver the Cambridge IGCSE qualification, which is recognised for university admissions worldwide.
